The LWML seeks to develop and maintain a greater mission consciousness among the women of the Synod through education, inspiration, and service. The major emphasis of our district organization is the support of mission and ministry throughout the world by means of mite box offerings. Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite (Luke21:1-4), the mite box is used to collect money for this purpose. Members of the LMWL are given mite boxes to fill. We also offer the congregation the opportunity to participate. The filled mite boxes are then brought to church for collection or to the LWML monthly meetings. These mite box offerings have funded tens of millions of dollars in mission grants since the organizations inception in 1942.
