Why Give

Memorial and Honor Gifts

Any gift that you give to Grace Lutheran Church, either now or in the future, may be given in memory of a family member, special friend or any other person you choose.  Similarly, you may give a gift in honor of a living person. You might choose, for example, to honor a grandchild on the occasion of his or her birthday or graduation.

All memorial and honor gifts will be recorded by the church and published in its annual report.  It is our practice to notify appropriate family members that a memorial or honor gift has been donated to Grace Lutheran Church.  We do not identify the amount given, simply that a gift was given.

Unrestricted and Restricted Gifts

It is important that you let us know if your gift or gifts are unrestricted or restricted.  An unrestricted gift is one that you give to the church or school for use where the need is greatest.  You do not attach any conditions.

A restricted gift is one that you give for a specific purpose or use.  For example, it might be “for new musical equipment.”  We are legally bound to use your gift only for the purpose you intend unless it violates the law or is not consistent with the mission of Grace Lutheran Church.  If we cannot use your gift for the purpose you intend, we will discuss the matter with you or your heirs.

Summary

The information contained here should be viewed as a guide to charitable giving.  If you have questions about any of the gift opportunities described earlier, please call the church office.  We will be pleased to meet with you at your convenience.

The church office maintains a current list of gift opportunities.  You may wish to review a copy before making a decision about your gift to Grace Lutheran Church or School.

Grace Lutheran Church utilizes the resources of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Foundation, as well as the Lutheran Community Foundation, to execute and manage planned or deferred gifts.  Information is available in the church office about both Foundations.

Always consult your attorney or financial adviser for advice when making a gift.

“The heart of the giver makes the gift dear and precious.”
